Dear colleagues and students,
One day after the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian military troops, Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3 (France) wishes to express its solidarity with the Ukrainian academic community and, beyond, with the whole population of this country which only aspires to a democratic and peaceful life.
We can only express our astonishment at the lies and distortions of geopolitical realities used to justify this unspeakable action that brings, in the heart of Europe, a state of war we all hoped belonged to the past.
The diplomatic efforts deployed to avoid this tragic outcome were brutally swept aside. It does not bode well for the future intentions of the Russian power to respect international law. And so we join our voice to all those who call for an immediate end to the use of weapons and a return to conflict resolution through dialogue.
