SPRINT

Standardize best PRactise about INTernships

Description

SPRINT was a strategic partnership project co-funded by the European Commission within the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme (key action n°2).

The coordinator of this project was the Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3.

Seven partner organisations were involved in the implementation of this project in order to improve the integration of young people into the labour market by creating a European quality framework for internships.

In 2018, a 1st report on the legislation on internships in the member countries of the European Union and Switzerland was drawn up, as well as an analyse of best practices on quality internships. A survey was also conducted on needs and barriers of stakeholders in implementing quality internships.

The partners then worked, under the supervision of AFNOR (Association Française de Normalisation) representing the CEN (European Committee for Standardization), on the drafting of a European Quality Framework for Internships.

The other productions of the project result from this document: the practical guide and the self-assessment tool for the host organizations and the guide on quality internships for Higher Education Institutions’ services.

The partners implemented the project activities to:

  • Create a European Quality framework for Internships that would be recognized and accepted by host organizations;
  • Establish a strong partnership among organizations that work in this field;
  • Raise stakeholders’ (youth, Higher Education Institutions, host organizations) collective awareness about quality internships;
  • Analyse, report, disseminate and further build upon data collected to steer policy debate and incentivize employers to improve their practices;
  • Prepare training of the different stakeholders, thus ensuring the correct application of the quality criteria for internships and ensuring the sustainability of the outcomes of the project.
